Protein Bar Recommendation

With the protein bars, we generally recommend opting for a bar that provides 25-30 grams of protein and contains few sugars (5 grams or less is best). If the total carbohydrate content to protein content is 1:1 or lower (i.e. slightly more protein than carbohydrates, so much the better). Bars with 5 or more grams of fibre can help stave off hunger better.

Here are our top 3 choices

#1. Chef Irvine Fit Crunch Bars

88gPBBox

In our opinion, the best tasting bars on the market (they come in both Cookies & Cream as well as Peanut Butter, both are delicious). These bars are a complete meal replacement, clocking in with 30 grams of protein and almost 400 kcal.

These bars taste so good, you won’t believe you are actually eating a protein bar.

#2. Supreme Protein Bars

Another delicious option as a meal replacement. These bars come in 9 different flavours and generally provide 30 g of protein and nearly 400 kcal per bar. These ones are closer in texture to a conventional protein bar, but with such a wide variety of flavour options, it’s easy to find you’ll love.

#3. Darryl’s Hi-N-R-G Bars

An awesome, all natural option, the bars contain minimal preservatives and are locally made. Not quite as calorically dense as the first two options, the bars provide 28 g of protein and 290 kcal.

Because they bars don’t have much in the way of artificial preservatives, you’ll find them in the refrigerated section of a grocery/sport supplement store. They also shouldn’t be left in your car or desk for long periods of time… but given how good they taste, I don’t think that’ll be a problem.

Bonus Recommendations

We enjoy the Darryl’s Hi-N-R-G bar so much, that we’ve created our very own version of it. You’ll find the recipe for the No Bake Peanut Butter Protein bar on page 17 of your recipe guide.

Also, we’ve been getting a number of rave reviews on our Black Bean Brownie Protein Bar. It isn’t quite as firm (so don’t expect to stuff it at the bottom of a lunch bag underneath a ton of other foods and have it hold up), but it packs a might protein/fibre punch. You’ll find the recipe for that one on page 13 of the recipe guide.
